CONCENTRATION AREA:

  • Health Informatics: Health Informatics combines the areas of Information Technology and Health and Telehealth to develop the systems needed to manage the expansion of information, advance clinical workflow and improve health system security. Integrating information science, health, and telecommunications to collect, organize and secure health-related information and data systems.

Research lines:

  • Information and Communication Technology in Health/eHealth: Production, use and evaluation of information technology, hardware and software for better decision-making and patient outcomes.Integration of information technology with health care to support continuous improvement in patient care systems, project management, decision-making, quality assessment and the operationalization and integration of health systems. Innovation, Technology, Health Policy and Economics, legal and ethical principles in health care, health research and its application. Analysis of research in health care, information systems and health technologies, data, information and knowledge management, and the use of health data for process improvement, cost containment and safe health care. The history, application, impact and future needs of Health Informatics. Artificial Intelligence in Health.

To give sustainability to this research line, the Program constituted the following areas:

1) Methods and interventions to promote mobility, ubiquity (pervasive technology), equity and accessibility.

2) Information management through the effective organization, analysis and use of information.

3) Patient safety and health care quality through computer-based instruments, products and approaches.

4) Ergonomics and Usability of systems, development of user-friendly interfaces and product use, workflow optimization and overcoming barriers.

5) Development and evaluation of information systems.    

6) Artificial Intelligence in Health

  • Telehealth: Development, application and improvement of techniques and methods in telecommunications to provide health actions, counselling, and distance health education, using internet resources, voice and video networks, tele/web conferences and artificial intelligence. Development and evaluation of methods, products and systems in teleconsultation, teleinterconsultation and formative second opinion. Tele research, Tele-education and telecare strategies. Network structure and security in Telehealth. Ethical and legal aspects in telehealth. To give sustainability to this line of research, the following thematic areas were constituted:
